I am so excited to share with you the transformation of our home from installing Heritage Oak Spill Defense Laminate from Select Surfaces! This flooring is AMAZING! They have so many different color options, but with our new modern style I knew that Heritage Oak would be the perfect timeless color! We have installed Select Surfaces flooring in two other spaces of our home (HERE & HERE), so using their product was a no brainer! Select Surfaces™ Heritage Oak Spill Defense laminate flooring has the look and feel of real hardwood, with the added durability of a laminate floor. Plus, their new Spill Defense Collection is designed with a tighter seal than regular laminate, so it can withstand liquid spills for up to 24 hours and can be wet mopped!
THE DEMO
I had the cutest little demo helpers! Let me tell you, they were AMAZING! They were such a help stacking the old flooring and following behind pulling up the foam. Heritage Oak has a foam backing attached to it so there is no need for the additional layer!
Using THIS trim puller, we started by removing all of the baseboards throughout the house. I drew diagrams of each room (shown below) and marked the back of the trim with the coordinating number to make it easier to reinstall. This saved us SO much time!! I highly recommend taking this extra step! For the door trim, I used THIS multi-tool to cut them so that the flooring could slide under it. For more details, check out my IG Highlight HERE.
Both my office and our master bedroom had carpet in them, so next we removed that. I was SO happy to see this carpet go. Even though it was only 3 years old, I hated it! I am much more of a wood floor with a rug type of girl!
If you’re wondering why we are replacing our flooring after only building our home 3 years ago, THIS is why. WATER. DAMAGE. Our French doors have leaked since day one. We had them replaced but they continued to leak. Over the summer we built this gorgeous deck, and had a roof put on to cover the door so we wouldn’t have this issue. This water damage caused our original cheap laminate to buckle in several places throughout the living room. We also had a mini fridge leak that caused it to swell up in the kitchen. Although it still looked pretty in pictures, the flooring itself was in rough condition.
THE INSTALL
Install was smooth and went fairly quickly. We started in the office which is the far left corner of the house and worked our way through the hall and into the great room. This flooring is much thicker than vinyl so we used the miter saw to cut it instead of the flooring cutter that I typically use.
Over the course of a few days we worked through the great room, into the mud room, and finishing in the master bedroom. It was so amazing watching the each room transform as the install progressed. I am a little biased, but I think this is the most beautiful flooring I have ever seen. We get SO many compliments on it when we have guests over!
THE FINISHED PRODUCT
We are absolutely in love with our Select Surfaces™ Heritage Oak Spill Defense laminate and are elated that this project is completed. If you are looking to replace your flooring, take my word that this is PERFECT for a DIY. You can save thousands of dollars on install alone! What are you waiting for?!
