Who would have thought a Black Ceiling could add SO much to the space!

My love for Ceilume Tiles is no secret! They are gorgeous, economical, and so easy to work with. We have now used Ceilume Tiles to finish our entire basement ceiling. When choosing which style we wanted for our main living space, I knew I wanted to go for more of a theatre look! The Black Stratford Ceiling Tiles were PERFECT! The grid that I had already ordered was White, but of course Ceilume had a solution to that! EZ-On Grid Covers to the rescue!

Before Ceilume

In February of this year we decided to tackle the basement. We knew it would be a long (expensive) project. This photo was taken in March after the framing, drywall, flooring, cabinets, concrete countertops, and brick backsplash was installed. Even though it felt like we had already done SO much, we were far from done. Nine months later and we are finally finished. I am sure we will continue to make small changes like we always do, however we are ecstatic with how it has come along so far!

The Grid & Tiles

As with the other ceilings in the basement, we used this Armstrong Quick Hang Ceiling Grid Kit. It was easy to install and DIY friendly. My husband and his dad were able to install the entire grid in 2 evenings!

Once the grid was complete, My SIL and I began inserting all of the full 2×4 tiles first. The instant gratification of seeing the black ceiling go up was AMAZING. Once all of the full tiles were installed, I started cutting the perimeter tiles while she started installing grid covers!

The EZ- On Grid Covers

As you can see, the EZ-On Grid covers make ALL the difference. Ceilume makes two types of covers, which are both included in this kit! The Wall angle covers install everywhere your grid runs along a wall, they slide easily onto your wall angle. Main covers install along your suspended ceiling’s main beams and cross T’s (basically every section that doesn’t run along a wall), they have a tab at one end to cover grid intersections and a lip that allows the cover to “click” into place. Both cut easily with scissors and were super easy to install.

The Finished Product

To say that we are over the moon with our Ceilume ceiling would truly be an understatement. We have put so much into making the basement our family hangout and finally seeing it finished has been so rewarding. Many Movie, Game, and Family Nights are in our future!
